Alexandria Doctor Dealt Oxycodon, Morphine, Police Say

Joint investigation between police from Fairfax County and Prince William County led to arrest of four individuals they say distributed painkillers to patients without a prescription.

A Mount Vernon doctor was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 8 and charged with selling painkillers to patients without a prescription.

Police from Fairfax County and Prince William County arrested 73-year-old Alex Peralta Yadao at his home in the 9300 block of Old Mount Vernon Road at around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. (For a video of the arrest, go to the Prince William County Police Department's Facebook page.)

Through a joint narcotics investigation, police from the neighboring counties concluded Yadao, who has his medical practice in Triangle, Va., was selling oxycodone and morphine to patients who didn't have a medical need for the painkillers.

"The accused was putting close to 8,000 oxycodone pills on the streets weekly through his doctor’s office in Triangle," according to a Prince William County Police Department press release. "All transactions conducted were done so in cash only, without insurance claims."

In a raid of Yadao's office and basement apartment under the office at 18700 Old Triangle Road, police seized prescription medication, records, two vehicles and an undisclosed amount of cash. Police arrested the resident of the apartment, Keith Edward Payne, 53.

Paul Mathew Phillips, 49, and Bonnie Kay Phillips, 43, of Midland, Va., were also arrested after last week's investigation. Police say they purchased painkillers from Yadao without a prescription.

Yadao is charged with 18 counts of possession with intent to distribute a schedule II narcotic and 18 counts of prescription fraud, according to the press release.

Yadao and Payne are being held without bail. All four of the accused go to trail in February.
